Tariffs Ocean and Air Freight - Q2, 2020

For many years now, you have received quarterly updates from the market situation in sea and air freight, and at the same time your rates for the new period.

For the 2nd quarter of 2020, however, caused by the global Corona crisis, this is more than difficult, if not impossible. That is why we have chosen not to issue any new rates for Q2, 2020 at this time.

A brief summary of the impact of the Corona crisis on our business:

Ocean Freight

  • Shortages of equipment, space on board and administrative / physical support at all links in the chain, such as truckers, terminals, handling agents, shipping companies, customs, authorities / agencies, etc.
  • Due to scarcity, especially on the North Atlantic shipping routes, several shipping companies have announced significant general increases (GRIs).
  • Restrictions and / or closures of ports / terminals / routes.

Air freight

  • Passenger flights worldwide, with which approximately 80% of all air freight is flown, are very limited.
  • Air freight handling at all major airports in the world is substantially reduced.
  • Due to a huge run on freighter capacities, the rates have risen sharply and air freight space is extremely tight.

Possibilities and rates change by the day and we have therefore decided to continue to apply the rates of Q1, 2020 and to charge all surcharges related to the Corona crisis to our clients as per outlay. In many cases, a rate for an order will be determined per day and situation, especially for air freight shipments.

Like most of our industry peers, we will also have to rely on a situation of unforeseen circumstances (Force Majeure) that may prevent existing rates and agreements from being honored.
