Major strike in Montreal disrupts sailing schedules

The port workers in Montreal have gone on strike and will only resume work after an agreement has been reached. Delays in services between Antwerp and Canada are inevitable, according to the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd.

The German shipping company has three weekly services between Europe and Montreal, two of which call at Antwerp.

Putting Pressure

With the strike action, the unions want to put pressure on the renegotiation of their collective labor agreement, which has already expired at the end of 2018 and has not yet been renewed. They especially want to see the number of consecutive days they work reduced.

Consequences for Intervracht LCL service to and from the US

The strike affects virtually the entire port of Montreal. Unfortunately, this affects our ocean freight LCL service to and from Chicago, which is shipped via Montreal.

We will do everything we can to keep our customers informed of the delay. Additionally, we are exploring alternative routes so as not to jeopardize the progress of our weekly sea groupage service to and from the US.
